Forging Elite Fitness

History

Established in August 2008 CrossFit Plymouth is one of the UK's longest serving CrossFit Affiliates. Steady growth has seen us develop from a park based affiliate to our current day 6000sqft facility and around 200 members. We have helped athletes from all walks of life become fitter, faster and stronger, with several going on to represent CrossFit Plymouth at the CrossFit games regional qualifiers. As such the reputation of the CFP athletes, coaching staff and community is respected and talked about nationally.

CrossFit Plymouth Timeline
The Academy 2008 - 2009

My good friend Tom Barlow is the co owner of the Master St James Martial Arts Academy. After some long conversations and upon receipt of my notice of affiliation we set to work on kitting an area of his facility out. We used scaffold poles for pull up bars and begged borrowed and stole for kit. Within a weekend we were set to go. For a year we showed those 16kg kettlebells and 5 kg wall balls who were boss. Thanks to Tom for helping us get CFP up and running.

The Unit 2009 - 2010

The Unit - 500sq ft of pure industrial blood sweat and tears. In this place we were able to introduce the olympic lifts and more complex gymnastic movements. Finally we were doing pure Crossfit, the men loved it the women hated it (maybe the spiders in the toilet were a bit off putting!). From here we started to carve the shape of CFP to come with athletes such as James Treloar, Andrew Gamble and Maz Glover starting to come in to their own and really catching the CrossFit bug.

The Box 2010 - 2013

2000sq ft! This was big time, a 20 man pull up rig, rubber bumper plates and showers!! What more does a CrossFitter need? After 2 years we were now one of the big boys in the UK and competing to a high standard at the European regionals alongside Annie and Sam Briggs. This will always be a special box for me as my Dad put so much work in to the building and it really brought us together, so many happy memories and special people passed through the doors in 3 years, but with the evolution of the Primal Games CFP had to grow. Special thanks of course to Luke Green who stood shoulder to shoulder with me through the early stages of these happy years.

The Gun Shed 2014 - Present

6000sq ft. Probably the biggest pull up rig in Europe, the best kit money can buy and enough space to hit a 60 person WOD. This really is the dream box and is only possible because of the hard work and faith of several members of CFP. This facility will be the starting place for many peoples CrossFit journey and an area for all athletes and coach's to grow in character, health & athleticism. This has all happened in just over 5 years and everyday I am thankful to CrossFit for giving me the life I have always dreamed of.
